Born
in Sheffield, Kristan has been a constant visitor to the Peak District
and has an intimate knowledge of the edges and moorlands around the
Derwent Valley. Influenced by Turner and Girtin, his work reveals the
atmosphere and space of the landscape in it's various moods.
By using colour boldly his painting exposes the stark contrasts between
earth and sky making the weather become an integral part of the
composition. Showers and
storm clouds for example, hang in the middle distance rather than
forming a backcloth.
