Inspired by the French Impressionists, Abstract Expressionists and the Scottish Colourists, Richard’s work echoes their shape and form via colour and bold mark-making. In addition to vibrant colour, light quality plays a huge part in his work. In this collection of Peak District inspired paintings Richard paints from imagination and emotional recollection of where he has been walking and sketching for many years interpreting rather than copying the landscape.  Back in his studio in Delph he produces his paintings using vibrant colours in acrylics and oils, applied predominantly with painting knives, on to board and large box canvases creating paintings with bold definitions and striking details of the Derbyshire Peaks and Moorlands.
