Lyon Epitaph
The
shadows lengthen and
My
sun slips to the horizon.
When
it merges with that black rim
All
of me that will remain
Will
be in others’ memories.
Remember
me,
As
one who loved the sound of words
And
the comfort of a good book.
Remember
me,
As
one who enjoyed learning
And
the study of the past.
Remember
me,
As
one who felt the deep stir of verse
And
saw the colours of poetic imagery.
Remember
me,
As
one who loved the touch of stone
And
the shape of sculptured bronze.
Remember
me,
As
one who was moved by mighty music
And
thrilled to the sound of a trained voice.
Remember
me,
As
one who saw the beauty in a flower
And
lifted his eyes to the glory of the hills.
Remember
me,
As
one who loved life itself with passion
His
friends, his pets and his home.
Remember
me,
Above
all as one who lifelong loved the girl he married
Who
made him this man and gave him his fine children.
Remember
me.
